House |
I SEEK INFORMATION ON THE HOME I OWN IN ALLENDALE. IT IS
SUPPOSED TO BE THE OLDEST HOME IN THE TOWN OF ALLENDALE. THE HOUSE IS SUPPOSED
TO BE THE ORIGINAL HOMESITE OF GEORGE WASHINGTON AND BENJAMIN FRANKLIN ALLEN
(THE TOWNS FOUNDERS?) . THE HOME WAS BUILT IN 1822 AND SITS AT 974 SPRUCE
STREET. IT IS MY UNDERSTANDING THAT THE HOME WAS DEEDED TO A LAURA ALLEN
BY THESE TWO BROTHERS (A SISTER). APPARENTLY, THERE WERE ORIGINALLY TWO TWIN
HOMES ON THE LAND, BUT ONE BURNED. I WOULD LIKE THE HOUSE ADDED TO
YOUR HOMES ON THE WEB SITE, AND WE ALSO WANT THE HOME TO HAVE A HISTORICAL
MARKER. IF YOU CAN PROVIDE ME ANY HISTORY ON THE HOUSE iI WOULD APPRECIATE
IT. ALSO, IF YOU KNOW HOW WE GO ABOUT REGISTERING THE HOUSE, I WOULD BE VERY
INTERESTE IN ANY INFORMATION YOU CAN PROVIDE. I FEEL THIS HOME IS IMPORTANT
TO THE HISTORY OF ALLENDALE AND IS OFTEN OVERLOOKED IN IT'S RECORDED HISTORY.
THE HOME IS VERY INTACT AND LITTLE HAS BEEN DONE TO DESTROY IT'S HISTORICAL
SIGNIFICANCE. 3 Oct. 2003 |

Trying to locate a Nazareth Allen that came out of South Carolina, born
22 April 1820 according to his headstone. He came to Georgia with only his
mother, Mildred "milly" Allen which leads me to believe her husband died
and she left Carolina and came to Georgia. Any help would be appreciated.
They came to Bibb County, Georgia. Nazareth married a Mary Hunnicutt
and his mother married her older brother. Nazareth was a guard at Andersonville
during the Civil War. Any help would be appreciated. Its very hard to find
individuals when you live a long ways off from where they came from. I have
a web site with more info. in case someone is interested or picks up on the
name. Jan. 2004 |

| APPLETON |
What is the origin of the name of the town of Appleton in
Allendale County ? When was it established? Does it refer to a family who
settled there? I am researching Thomas Appleton
who was in Newberry County SC about 1773, had land on the NS of Saludy River
on a branch of Bush River, and on a branch of the Little Saludy River called
Indian Creek. He died in 1782 and his estate papers were filed in the
Abbeville District by Rev. Joachim Bulow. No family members known other than
daughter Elizabeth who married an Elmore. I am interested in any Appleton
name in South Carolina. Thank you. 18 June 2001
