PALMER
I am interested in knowing more about CHARLES PALMER listed
on the 1790 census of Beaufort Co. SC. I have been trying to find out more
about my ancestor SAMUEL PALMER who may be connected to Charles Palmer. Samuel's
first and only son was named Charles b. 1795 and it is a naming pattern in
the Palmer family. I do know that Samuel Palmer married Anne Brunson, dau.
of John Brunson who lived in SC but moved to St. George Parish c. 1780s.
The Brunson family was from the Colleton/Beaufort area. Samuel died in 1814
in Screven Co. GA. The Brunsons had land in Screven, Burke, Bulloch, and
Washington Co. GA. I did find a Samuel in Colleton Co. SC on the 1780 tax
list. I am in hopes that someone who is kin to Charles may tell me if he
had a brother or son named Samuel b. c. 1750s. I can't seem to find any material
on this Palmer family. I would appreciate any help.

PARNELL
Seek info on Parnells that may have been slave owners in Beaufort, SC
between 1820 and 1850. My family (the family of Pompey Parnell, a slave)
can trace its beginnings in the United States to Beaufort, South Carolina.
When the slave owner named Parnell moved to Florida, my great-great grandfather
Pompey Parnell and other slaves were relocated to Columbia County, Florida.
This part of Florida is now considered the ancestral home of the descendants
of Pompey Parnell. Any genealogical information is greatly appreciated.

My great-grandfather , Dr. William Clancy Peters, came to
Beaufort in 1881 to practice medicine. He married Ada Bishop and they had
one son, William Edwin, born at their home, "The Oaks" on St. Helena Island.
There, in 1893, they barely survived a storm(hurricane?) Dr. Peters' sister,
Clara came in 1885 to teach at the Penn School and lived with them. She married
James Ross Macdonald in 1889 and died in 1950. Dr. Peters moved back to
Harrisburg in 1896 or 1897. I am seeking info on the family, their home,

PHILLIPS
I am interested in Phillips in Beaufort, Colleton, Hampton, Jasper,
and Old 96. I can connect a Dempsey Phillips with the Jacob Phillips and
others in these areas. I was trying to locate Civil War records for John,
Preston and Jacob Phillips They were brothers of my husband's grandfather,
Bartley Phillips out of Hampton County. We traced the original land grant
to 1000 acres outside Grays, SC. But the Phillips had come to the area from
further up, I believe. From Barnwell, Bamberg, Old 96 and Anderson areas....Maybe
NC before that. I have much info and pictures to share and 10,000 names dates
etc. 7 Jan. 2001 |

POPE
My 2X gt-gdfather WILLIAM STUART POPE 1789-1837 settled in
Jackson County, FL about 1823. He likely went to FL from a home in Beaufort
Co. SC (I note with great interest that there is a Pope Cemetery in Beaufort)
and is likely also to have had at least 3 siblings: a Col. John Pope, a sister
? Elizabeth Pope Tanner (both settled in FL?) and a brother named Green Pope
who went to TX in the 1820s. My lineal ancestors from William Stuart Pope
1789-1837 to present all are buried in Sneads, FL (or have graves reserved
there!) but William Stuart, thought to have gone from Beaufort to Jackson
Co. FL is my "brick wall" tracing backward. We are thought to be descended
from very early (1630s?) Popes from England who went first to VA and, from
there, gradually southward. Any information as might aid me in tracing back
beyond William b. 1789 Beaufort? wd be greatly appreciated.

PRITCHARD
Am looking for my ggggrandfather, last name PRITCHARD, first name not
known, but may have been William H. (Hugh or Henry) or Thomas. Came to SC
(either Beaufort or Anderson county), probably around 1823 or so. Married
an Elizabeth HARDMAN (?--on last name) and my gggrandfather, Robert Jordan
PRITCHARD, born in SC 2-17-1829. They moved to Georgia in 1830. A daughter
was born and died around 1825 or 1826. Elizabeth was born in 1806 in SC,
Mr. Pritchard was born in England, left there and came to SC. He left behind
a wife and children. Don't know if he ever got divorced from her or not.
Apparently he was wealthy and when he died in Georgia around 1840-1845, Elizabeth
gave each of his previous children one dollar and divided the rest up amongst
her children with him. Seek information that may link to him or to Elizabeth.
