(1) Charles Ewing Gill born 1821 in Tennessee (according to the census).
A Charles Ewing Gill is recorded in an extant marriage record to have married Eliza Jane Wilson in Lawrence Co., AL 29 Jan 1845. Members of this family had stated that his wife was Eliza J. Milam born 1827 in SC, d1889 TX, daughter of Wm. Allen Milam, but if so, she must have been a widow of a Wilson when he married her in Lawrence Co., Al.
Although we do have a marriage record, I could not verify it from the GenWeb Lawrence Co. web site. I insted found a different set of marriages. it is worth taking a serious look at other Gills who appear in Lawrence Co., AL:
This is what we have on the web page from various sources:
| Jantha Gill | James N. Cunningham | Lawrence | 1-15-1829 |
| John Gill | Mary Nelson | Lawrence | 28 Dec 1830 |
| J. N. Gill | Francis Rogers | Lawrence | 16 Jul 1834 |
| Charles Ewing Gill | Eliza Jane Wilson | Lawrence | 29 Jan 1845 |
| John W. Gill | Margaret Masterson | Lawrence | 30 Oct 1845 |
The Lawrence Co. GenWeb page lists the following marriages:
| GILL, BETSEY | ROGERS, ROBERT | Apr 17 1825 |
| GILL, IRUMAHAT | ROGERS, FRANCES S | Feb 16 1834 |
| GILL, JANTHA | CUNNINGHAM, JAMES N | Jan 15 1829 |
| GILL, JOHN | NELSON, MARY | Dec 28 1830 |
| GILL, MARTHA ANN | STRAIN, THOMAS | Sep 08 1840 |
Although there is some correspondance, Charles Ewing Gill does not appear on the GenWeb site for Lawrence Co. Can anyone obtain the orginal marriage records for us from the court house? If so, perhaps we could get all of these records either corrected or updated.

There is not a lot of help in these records. However, if Charles Ewing Gill was in Lawrence Co., it would suggest that he did not come down the Natchez Trace from Tennessee, but instead came across Alabama. This is consistent with him having come from the Fishing Creek, SC set of Gills, but for some reason, this does not ring true to me.
