Three brothers came to America in a sailboat after 1790. According to family knowledge, likely bible information and/or old research. Thomas was b. 1774 in Yorkshire, England and d. in Bean Station, Grainger Co., TN 1846; his brother William came with him but has not been traced by me. The father was William Gill and the mother was Elizabeth Ward. Her father was William Ward. William Gill must have been married twice because a half brother is mentioned as immigrating also, John (1/2 brother) not traced by me. Elizabeth Ward is referred to in family papers as being a Welsh lady and two children were born in Yorkshire, England. Unknown where John was born.
Thomas Gill lived in Bertie Co., NC for a few years after he arrived in America. Port unknown. He married Elizabeth Harrell or Herrell late 1802 or early 1803 there, the dau. of Col. Thomas Herrell of the American Revolution.
Something odd in the family is that he has always been referred to as "Sir" Thomas Gill, for reasons unknown. I couldn't find him in Burke's Peerage.
Thomas Gill and Elizabeth Herrell were the parents of:
The above information was found in the book, "Jarnagin Collection and Allied Families" by Glenn .Susong Clark, 1977.
