David and Catherine Gill members of the Pinckney Baptist Church, Newton Co. where Henry Gill was Pastor. Left Newton Co. & church before 1860.

In 10/10/1851 minutes of PickneyBaptist Church, "Bro. David Gill and Sister Catheine Gill, his wife, granted letter of dismissal." David

and Catherine shown on membership rosters for 1848,1850, 1853 and subsequent years, but do not show up on 1857 roster.

Moved to Arkansas between 1858-1860. 1880 AR census states both mother and father were born in GA. RE purchased in Neshoba Co. on 2/27/1841

shows his DOB as 3/30/1808. Bought 280 ac of land 12/1859 in Saline Co., AR. RE purchase Samuel is in AR, married with family on 1870 census.

David is on the 1860 Saline Co., AR census, but is on the Grant Co. census in 1870.

Was married to Elizabeth Miles 3/12/1840 in Rankin Co.; Married Malinda Neely 8/28/1846. Looks like John and Daniel married relatives

because both their wives and in-laws were born in KY and named Neely. Could they have been in KY between 1830-1842? Children born in

MS. John was listed on MS census roll in 1845. A John L. Gill shows up in Scott Co. RE records in 1848, 1859 and 1860. Scott Co. is the

county between Rankin and Newton Counties. John (NMI) show up in RE transactions in Newton Co. in 1884 and 1891.

Simeon is shown as purchasing land in Arkansas on 5/3/1858 and 7/1/1859. He served in A Co. 11th AR Inftry. Shown on the 1870 census for

Bradley Co. AR. 1870 census shows at least 2 children born in AR. May have gone to AR when David left since both purchased land at same time.

Daniel shown as serving in B Co. of 39th MS Inftry (Rankin Rebels). He died as prisoner of war at Camp Douglas, IL 1/20/1865. Buried there.

Henry does not show up on the 1840 census. Becomes member of Pinckney Baptist Church 1847 and wife Fanny (Phaneul) also joins. In 1848,David and Catherine join the church. Fanny dies in 1851. David and Catherine granted letter of dismissal but are listed as members until the year of 1857. Henry is ordained into the ministry in 1854. In 1855, Susan (Cooksey) Gill joins church. In 1862, Henry's funeral preached and noted he died in the war.

Other conjectures: Henry's oldest son named after his grandfather"John" (per Dr. Clark's files) and his own father "Thomas"; his second son, Robert George,was named after his uncle "Robert" who came from GA with Thomas; and third son, James William, born in 1862, would have been named after his other uncle, "James", who traveled from GA with Thomas.

Other connections: David named 2 of his sons, Thomas and James and a third was named Rueben.

My brother, sister and I all remember in the 50s going to visit some of our Dad's relatives in Arkansas, but none of us can remember any of the names of the family members. We also remember our Dad telling us that the family came from three brothers that came to MS. My dad's sister said this past summer while my wife and I were visiting her that she had always heard the family was originally from GA.
