Columbia Military Prison Location
Union Officer POW Camps

There are no remains, plaque, or even a definate location of the camp. Based upon various POW accounts, they were marched from the train past the Saluda Factory to a site a couple of miles outside of Columbia on the banks of the Congaree river with a triburary running thru one side of the camp.

The above map was published in in the 4 March 1865 issue Harper's Weekly.

With this in mind. the logical location would, just off what is now Mohawk Drive in West Columbia near the location of the current Zoo, probably on the south side.
