Feb 1998 __________________ From: Dr. Edwin Fountain ( fountain@bulloch.net ) on 6/26/2000: "Hello, As far as I can make out from your information this line of John Fountain and Eliza King is the line of Virginia Fountain Sellers Oliver, who gave me a great deal of help. John Fountain was the son of William Fountain, the son of Henry Fountain of North Carolina... William came south to Darlington Co. and settled in Mechanicsville, S.C. and is buried there. John and Eliza had: Elizabeth Catherine Fountain (never married) Hannah Jane Fountain, who married John Lide Hart Mary Ann Fountain (never married) William James Fountain born 1831 married Mary Ann McKalin Sarah Luezor Fountain Martha Eleanor Fountain (never married) John Alexander Fountain born 1836, died while away at college. Frances Elizabeth Fountain (never Married) Henry King Fountain born 1842, died young. It was a kind of sad family...all the unmarried girls are referred to in some of the local histories of the area and they seemed to have lived (I can't remember the town)... but John built a home just outside of Darlington and when he died, I believe a couple of these ladies may have inherited that house. Only two married and probably had children.....Hannah Jane and John Lide Hart....and William James and Mary Ann McKalin. Virginia Fountain Sellers is descended from William James Fountain and his daughter... Sarah Maria Fountain who married Warren Hood Sellers, and these were her mother and father.... she married Mr. Oliver.... I'm sure that if you were to contact Mrs. Oliver she could giive you any information she has on other descendants of William James Fountain and Mary Ann McKalin(?).... Are you from the Hart line or the William James Fountain Line? Virginia's address is: Mrs. Virginia Oliver, 12115 Cristina Ct., Fredericksburg, VA 22407 Sincerely, Dr. Edwin Fountain (E-Mail: fountain@bulloch.net ) _______________________________ Notes for Eliza King: John King and his wife Betsey and Catherine Coleman King, were dismissed from Mechanicsville Baptist Church in SC in 1823 to move to Alabama. < > ************* July 24, 1824 (per minutes of the Bellville Baptist Church as copied by Margaret Gaston): "The church met agreeable to adjournment after Divine worship sat in conference. Notes for Henry Fountain, Jr.: 1800 Census of Darlington CO, SC (page 13 & 16 A-B) lists a Henry Fountain, whose info matches the ages of Henry and Lucretia Fountain and their family. (3 M under 10; 1 M 16-26; 1 F 16-26). The three males were: Green K., Wilson A. and Spearvy Fountain. Henry and Lucretia Fountain were given a letter of 'dismission' from the Mechanicsville Baptist Church, Darlington CO, SC on 10 December 1819 (Mechanicsville Baptist Church Minutes). This may be the time they left SC to move to Alabama. Henry Fountain of Conecuh County, AL purchased 83 acres in the E2 of NW4 of Sec. 4, Twp 4, Range 12 E on 3 Dec. 1823 for $103.75 ($1.25 per acre). Patent dated 5 July 1824. _____________ I have a copy of the Fountain Family History 1660-1881 (By Lucy Wiggins Colson). It lists the William Fountain - Elizabeth Coleman marriage, and also states "Henry and Lucretia Booth Fountain [William's brother] were witnesses to William Fountain's will in Darlington County, South Carolina on April 20, 1803." He is also listed as buying property in Darlington County in 1793. There aren't any other mentions of Elizabeth or any Fountain-King relationships. However, I corresponded with a Fountain researcher in Georgetown,Texas, last year about the Fountain-Wiggins connection. She had a good bit of information on Henry and Lucretia's family, and may have more on William. Her name is June Jones Igo, and her address is 207 Rancho Bueno Drive, Georgetown, TX 78628-9521. She was undergoing radiation treatments when I last corresponded; hopefully she is still with us.
