Will of ABSALOM GALLOWAY
In the name of God, Amen, the first day of January one thousand seven
hundred and ninety three and in the seventeenth year of the Independence
of the united States of America I Absalom Galloway of Darlington County
and State of South Carolina planter being very sick and weak in body
but of perfect mind and memory thanks be given unto God: therefore calling
unto mind the mortality of my body and knowing that it is appointed for all
men once to die, do make and Ordain this my last will and Testament that is
to say principally and first of all, I give & recommend my Soul into the
hands of God that gave it, and my body I recommend to Earth, to be buried
in decent Christian Burial at the discretion of my Executors; nothing
doubting but at the general resurrection I shall receive the same again
by the mighty power of God.
And as touching such worldly Estate wherewith it hath pleased God to Bless
me in this life, I give demise and dispose of the same in the following manner
and form. Imprimis I lend to Rachael my dearly beloved wife one third of the
plantation wheron I now I live for her dowry during her widowhood I give
Her one bay Mare two Cows and Yearlings one pot one Skillet one dish and
a half-dozen of pewter plates two Basons half a dozen of knives and forks
one spinning Wheel and Cards and lastly all the hogs and Sheep in my mark
for her Children begotten by me and my former Wife's children till they become
of Age.
Item I give and bequest to my daughter Penelope Wilson one Shilling Sterling
Item I give and bequeath to my sone James his heirs and assigns a Negro fellow
named Moses and that when he attains to the age of twenty one
Item I give and bequeath to each of my daughters namely Margaret Tilpah Elizabeth
and Mary one featherbed
Item I give and bequeath to my Sons George and Absalom their heirs executors
administrators and assigns this plantation whereon I now live to be equally
divided between them and that when they attain to the Age of twenty one Years
And to my daughter Anne I give and bequeath two pots and the remaining part of my
household effects
And I do hereby constitute and ordain John Mixon and Samuel Mixon Executors of
this my last Will and Testament and I do hereby utterly disallow revoke and disannul
all and every other former Testaments Wills Legacies and Bequests and Executors
by me in any ways before named willed and bequeathed ratifying and confirming this
and no other to be my last Will and testament
