Obituary of
Evander Horace ARNETTE
DILLON - Evander Horace Arnette, 82, died Saturday, May 25, 2002,
at Duke Medical Center in Durham, N.C., after an illness.
He was born in Dillon County, a son of the late Walter M. and
Ina Arnette. He was a member of Pleasant Hill Baptist Church and treasurer of the
church for 54 years. He graduated from The Citadel in the class of 1941. He served
as an Army captain during World War II. He was a farmer. He served his community
and county through membership on Dillon County Council for 42 years and membership
on the board of First Citizens Bank. He served on the Dillon District No. 2 school
board and Avalon Academy and received the dedicated service award from
Lake View school district and community. He was president of the Arnette Co.,
which was founded in 1926. He was a Mason of the Blue Lodge in the Gaddys Mill
community.
He was predeceased by three brothers, Lenaeu Arnette, Glen Arnette
and Jimmy Arnette; and a sister, Martha Carsten.
The funeral will be at 4 p.m. today at Pleasant Hill Baptist Church,
Hamer. Burial will be in Greenlawn Cemetery, Dillon.
