Mrs Ore McKenzie Gaddy
Mrs Ore McKenzie Gaddy, widow of the late James M Gaddy, died at the McLeod Infirmary, Florence, Monday, March 22, following an illness of nearly three weeks.
Mrs Gaddy was 82 years of age. She was born in Marion County, now Dillon, on February 25, 1861. She was the daughter of John David McKenzie and Susan Hamilton McKenzie. When a young woman, she was married to James M Gaddy of Roberson County, NC., who prededed her to the grave ten years ago. To this union six children were born, all of whom survive except for the oldest son, who preceded her to the grave several years. When a young girl she united with the Methodist church and remained a faithful member.
In the passing of Mrs Gaddy her children have lost a true mother, her neighbors an unselfish, faithful servant. She is survived by the following children; Mrs H H Bailey of Lake View; Miss Ella Gaddy, Mrs Weitus Gaddy, Mrs Furman Miller, and J Roy Gaddy of the Gaddy's Mill Community. Also surviving are twenty-one grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, five brothers and two sisters.
Funeral services were conducted at the home Wednesday afternoon by her pastor, Rev W E Rone, assisted by Rev S E Ledbetter, Marion District Superintendent, Rev J D Gulledge of Kemper. Interment was in the Regan Cemetery. The pallbearers were her grandsons. The large crowd of sorrowing friends that gathered to pay their last tribute of love, and the many beautiful floral offerings bore testimony to the high esteem in which Mrs Gaddy was held.
