Mrs. Rachel Herring Dies After Illness
Mrs. Rachel Herring, 69, died Saturday in a local hospital after a few hours critical illness.
She was the daughter of Howard and Elizabeth Rowell Allen of Dillon County.
Survivors include her husband, Charlie Herring; five daughters, Mrs. Fannie Cannon, Mrs. Clarisy Watts, Mrs. Cora Legette, Mrs. Haley Jones and Mrs. Hellon Hasty, all of Dillon; seven sons, Guy of Johnsonville, Henry of Fork, John of Dillon, Charlie and Solomon of Norwich, Conn., and W.J. of Lumberton; three sisters, Mrs. Rosa McKenzie of Dillon, Mrs. Lee McKenzie of McColl, Mrs. Mary Jane Herring of Dillon; three brothers, Shell and Lawrence Allen of Dillon and Maurice Allen of Baltimore, Md.; a number of grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were conducted at 4p.m. Sunday by the Rev. Edward Smith. Burial was in the church cemetery at Mt. Calvary Baptist Church.
