FLORENCE JOHNSON BETHEA
Mrs Florence Johnson Bethea, widow of the late P Y Bethea who died about a year ago, died
at her home in Marion on Thursday, June 19. Mrs Bethea was the daughter of Oscar Edward Johnson
and Gabriella Strobel Johnson, and was born in Charleston, SC., April 11, 1865. She was educated
at Miss Kelley's School in Charleston. November 24, 1875, she was married to Phillip Yancey Bethea
of Marion, with whom she celebrated their golden wedding in 1925.
Mrs Bethea is survived by four sons and four daughters: Arthur S Bethea, York; E Johnson Bethea,
Latta; Stewart Bethea, New York; Markley Bethea, Washington, DC; Miss Eloise Bethea, Mrs W B McCall, and Miss Mary McLeod Bethea, of Marion; and Miss Florence Bethea of Tallahassee, Florida.
Funeral services were held at the Rose Hill Cemetery, Saturday morning, conducted by her pastor,
Rev Peter Stokes, assisted by Rev J M Holladay, and Dr Rufus York.
