10/31/1786. "Will of Elizabeth Stroud. In the Name of God Amen, I Elizabeth Stroud of Marlborough County in the State of South Carolina planter being weak in Body but of a sound and Disposing mind memory and Understanding Thanks be to God, and considering the uncertainty of Life it being appointed for all mankind [once] to Die, do for the more ease and satisfaction of my children make and declare this to be and contain this my Last Will & Testament, And first I resign my soul to God who gave it and my body to the Dust from whence it came their to be Buried at the discretion of my Executors in hopes of a Resurrection to Eternal Life, and as to the Worldly estate with which it has pleased God to blefs me with I Dispose thereof as follows-- Imprimis my will is that all my just Debts and funeral Expenses be first paid and Discharged, Item I give and bequeath to my Daughter Elizabeth Stroud a Grey mare named phillis And one bed and Furniture & the Sixeth part of all the Cattle & one Saddle & Bridle to have and to hold forever Item I give and bequeath to my son Isam Stroud a Bay Colt two Years Old next Spring named Rebel the sixeth part of the Cattle & fifth part of the Hogs & one Bed and Furniture & one Plow Carpenters Adze & two Iron wedges & one Ax & one hand saw to have and to hold forever Item I give and bequeath to my Daughter Caty Stroud one Grey mare named Judy three years old next spring, the Sixeth part of the Cattle, one bed and furniture to have and to hold forever Item I give and bequeath to my three youngest Sons Joseph, Jefse & Joshua Stroud two Negroes named Ester & harry one Bay horse named buck four years Old next spring the half of the Cattle & three share of hogs & the rest of the plantation Tools three pots and an Equal part of the pewter to be Equally divided amongst them, And I do Nominate constitute and Appoint my Two Sons John & Isam Stroud Executors of this my last will & Testament fully confiding in their Honors and Integrety to Interpret the same according to my true Intent and meaning In witnefs whereof I have to this my Last will and Testament Set my Hand and seal this Thirty first Day of October in the Year of our Lord One thousand seven Hundred & Eighty Six" Elizabeth [X her mark] Stroud (seal) "Signed Sealed published and Declared by the Testatrix Elizabeth Stroud as and for her Last will and Testament in the presence of us the Subscribers Thom Alison, Hez'h Alison, Isaiah Watkins."
This will was recorded in Marlboro Co., SC Will Book A, Page 13 (no recorded date). The probate office had a "fat" folder entitled "First Part of Will Book A, 1787-1853, pages 1 through 208." It mentioned Stroud, Elizabeth, page 17, Case I, box 50.
