The 'Allen' house on Spruce Street was the house of my great grandparents
and was built in 1834, although the house plaque says 1822. Berta Brunson
told me when she restored it that it was built in 1834. My mother may have
told her since my father was a descendant of the Allen's. His mother was
Annie Allen. - Virginia Ann Reeves Catalano.
It is supposed to be the oldest home in the town of allendale. The house is supposed to be the original homesite of George Washington and Benjamin Franklin Allen (the towns founders?) . The home was built in 1822 and sits at 974 spruce street. It is my understanding that the home was deeded to a Laura Allen by these two brothers (a sister). Apparently, there were originally two twin homes on the land, but one burned. - Rachael O'Neal, |
